Hi there and welcome to my first blog post. Thank you for coming. I hope you enjoy your stay.
I am assuming that you have been press ganged by myself or one of my brilliant friends into reading this so I hope I entertain you to some degree. If not, tell them you read it anyway and I am sure they will shut up about it and leave you alone.
Alternatively, if you have found this randomly I would imagine you are expecting a detailed account of serene and peaceful countryside walks. Or possibly some beautiful pictures of English Heritage landscapes like the Cotswolds or the Lake District. If that is the case then you are sorely mistaken – the only walking I do is in the practical sense, as a mechanical function to get me from where I am to where I need to be. I would therefore not be offended if you stopped reading about here >
That isn’t to say I don’t enjoy walking. I certainly prefer it to running. It is just that I view it in the same way that I view sleeping; it is a necessity and I enjoy it while I am doing it, but I would prefer to not need to do it for as long as I do it and therefore I could do other things that I REALLY enjoy doing a lot more than I do. (I apologise for that last sentence, I sound like a less exciting Willy Wonka, but I couldn’t help it).
So anyway, for those of you that don’t know me this is an introduction. An insight into the mind of Robert Anthony Brooks Esq. (I have never before referred to myself as esquire before but I am trying to hook you into my life).
I am in my mid-twenties, married to Louise and I have a 10 week old daughter named Isabelle. No, you haven’t slipped back in time by 3 decades. It is 2012, I am a young married man, I am happily married, it wasn’t a shotgun wedding and the baby was planned. Statistically I am quite young to be married but I truly love my life and wouldn’t have it any other way.
However, my life is a bit like that song by The Specials, “Too Much, Too Young.”
Further to my marital status, I am one of those people that has loads of hobbies and enjoys doing lots but doesn’t really focus on anything. I love music, have a reasonable singing voice and can play a few chords on a guitar – but I haven’t got the time to dedicate to being in a band (despite the support and encouragement from my good friend Dani Walsh, lead singer in The Midnight Slot www.themidnightslot.com
I enjoy writing, both poetry and prose, some of which you may have seen if you read my poetry blog www.rbpoetry.blogspot.com or if you are a member of www.youwriteonline.co.uk , a fantastic resource for any aspiring writer. I also enjoy reading, though never seem to get a chance to do that since buying a car and not using public transport.
Another hobby I have is playing Darts. I love this game and will happily spend an hour a night throwing pointy things at a round target. (I take the game more seriously than this and will address it in another post soon as I don’t wish to waffle on).
I also like all of the other modern trappings; computer games, I-phones, Films etc etc etc.
Essentially, what I am trying to say is, I am a jack of all trades and master of none. Therefore you will see posts on a variety of topics that you may or may not find interesting, funny and insightful. If you are in the may not group, I probably look a bit stupid right now. If you are in the other group, welcome to the start of what I hope is a beautiful relationship.
All the best,
Rob.
